Prayer to the Holy Methodius & Cyril, Equals of the Apostles & Enlighteners of the Slavs
Share

O all-glorious teaches and enlighteners of the Slavic peoples, holy Methodius and Cyril, equals of the apostles! Unto you, like children to their fathers, do we, who have been illumined with the light of your teachings and writings and instructed in the Faith of Christ, now earnestly have recourse; and we pray in compunction of heart. For even if, like disobedient children, we have not kept your commandments; if we have neglected to please God as ye taught; and if we have fallen away from the oneness of mind and love that ye bequeathed well to the Slavs as brethren in the Faith and the flesh: yet as in your lifetime of old ye did not turn the ungrateful and unworthy empty away, but repaid evils with good works, so now also spurn not the prayers of your sinful and unworthy children, and as ye have great boldness before the Lord, earnestly entreat Him, that He guide and turn us to the path of salvation, that He put down the dissension and discord which arise among brethren of the same Faith, that He lead those who have fallen away back to oneness of mind, and unite all of us in the one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church by unity in spirit and love. For we know, we know how much the prayer of a righteous man can move the Master to kindness of heart, even if it is offered up for sinful people. Forsake us not, your downtrodden and unworthy children, the flock gathered together by you, which because of its sins is grown small, divided by enmity and beguiled by the machinations of the heterodox, its reason-endowed sheep scattered and carried away by noetic wolves. Wherefore, by your supplications grant us zeal for Orthodoxy, that warmed thereby, we may keep well the traditions of our fathers, may faithfully strive to observe the rules and customs of the Church, may shun all strange false doctrines; that, prospering thus on earth in the God-pleasing life, we may be vouchsafed the life of paradise in heaven, and there, together with you, may glorify the Master of all, the one God in Trinity, unto the ages of ages. Amen.
