Prayer I
O most glorious martyr and valiant warrior of the King of heaven, all-blessed Panteleimon, most eminent imitator of the merciful God, who, having boldly confessed Christ on earth and endured divers torments for Him, didst receive from Him an imperishable crown in heaven, where thou dost enjoy everlasting bliss and standest with boldness before the throne of the three-Sunned Godhead! After God it is to thy Christ-like sympathy that we sinners flee, most earnestly entreating thee, our fervent helper and intercessor: Never cease to watch over us who are in need and sorrowful circumstances, and with the aid of thy supplications and by thy healing power ever deliver us from grievous evils, destruction and every other misfortune and affliction. For thou hast received the abundant grace of healings from our Savior Jesus Christ, O holy one, for thy steadfast faith in Him, which was sealed by thy blameless life and crowned with thy courage and thy right triumphant end, wherein, in accordance with the grace given thee by Christ, thou wast renamed Panteleimon, namesake of mercy. Wherefore, knowing thee to be a helper and healer merciful toward all, with faith we cry to thee: In thy God-pleasing mediation grant us all things profitable in this life and needful for eternal salvation. With thy martyric boldness beseech the merciful God, that, according to His great mercy, He take pity on us, sinful and unworthy though we are; that He deliver us from earthquake, flood, fire, the sword and all His righteous anger and portents, moving us in good time toward cleansing and sincere repentance amid our sins, for the sake of the multitude of His compassions; that He grant to us all a peaceful life pleasing to God and free from danger; to our Orthodox hierarchs victory and triumph over all heresies; and that He preserve us all from enemies, visible and invisible, by His grace and by the invincible array of His angels, protected and guided by whom may we live in this life in repentance, purity and the doing of God-pleasing deeds; that through thy fervent intercession we may be vouchsafed to obtain a Christian ending to our life, devoid of pain, peaceful and unashamed, may be delivered from the snares of the aerial princes of darkness and from everlasting torment, and may become heirs to His most blessed kingdom, which is without end. Yea, O favorite of God, never cease to pray for us sinners, that, delivered by thy mediation from temporal and eternal misfortunes, we may magnify thee, our helper and intercessor, and may forever glorify our common Master and Lord, Jesus Christ, to Whom is due all glory, honor and worship, with His unoriginate Father and His all-holy, good and life-creating Spirit, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Prayer II
O great favorite of Christ and most glorious healer, great martyr Panteleimon, who in spirit dost stand before the throne of God in heaven and delightest in the glory of His three Hypostases, who remainest on earth in body and in thy holy visage, depicted upon thine icons in the churches of God, and dost pour forth divers miracles through the grace given thee from on high! With the eye of thy mercy watch over these people standing before thine honored icon, praying with compunction and asking healing aid and assistance of thee; offer up to the Lord our God thy fervent entreaties and ask remission of offenses for our souls. For, lo! not daring to raise our eyes to the heights of heaven because of our transgressions, with contrite heart and a spirit of humility we call upon thee, the merciful mediator and intercessor before the Master for us sinners, for thou hast received from Him the grace to heal infirmities and to dispel the passions. Wherefore, we beseech thee: Disdain us not, unworthy though we are, who pray to thee and ask thine aid. Be thou our comforter in the midst of grief, a physician for those who suffer amid grievous infirmities, a speedy protector for the imperiled, a bestower of vision for those whose eyes are afflicted, the ready intercessor and healer of babes and sucklings in their illnesses; through thy mediation do thou obtain all things profitable for salvation that, having acquired grace and mercy through thine entreaties to the Lord God, we may glorify God, the Source and Bestower of all blessings, Who is glorified in the Holy Trinity—the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit—now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Prayer III
O holy great martyr and healer Panteleimon, imitator of the merciful God! Look down upon us in thy compassion and hearken unto us sinners who earnestly pray before thy holy icon. Ask thou remission of our sins and transgressions from the Lord God, before Whom thou standest in heaven with the angels; heal thou the infirmities of soul and body of the servants of God now commemorated, those standing here and all Orthodox Christians have recourse to thine aid. For, behold! we are grievously beset by many infirmities, and we have neither help nor consolation. To thee do we flee, for thou hast been given the grace to pray for us and to heal every ailment and every affliction. Wherefore, by thy supplications grant us all health and fortitude of soul and body, an surfeit of faith and piety, and all things profitable for this temporal life and for salvation, that, accounted worthy of great and rich mercies through thee, we may glorify thee and our God, the Bestower of all blessings, Who is wondrous in His saints—the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit—unto the ages of ages. Amen.
Prayer IV
Read Privily, in the Presence of the Sick
O great favorite of Christ, most merciful passion-bearer and physician Panteleimon! Have pity on me, thy sinful servant, and hearken unto my groaning and my cries; move thou to compassion Christ our God, the supreme Physician of our souls and bodies, that He grant healing of my affliction unto me who am oppressed thereby. Accept this unworthy supplication from me who am far more sinful than all other men. Visit me with the visitation of grace. Disdain not the wounds of my sins, but anoint them with the oil of thy mercy, and heal me; that, hale of soul and body, I may be able, through the grace of God, to pass the remaining days of my life in repentance and the pleasing of God, and may be vouchsafed a good end to my life. Yea, O favorite of God, entreat Christ God, that by thine intercession He may grant health to my body and salvation to my soul. Amen.
Prayer V
A Prayer of Thanksgiving, After Recovery From an Illness
O holy great martyr, healer and wonderworker Panteleimon, most eminent favorite of God and faithful intercessor for Orthodox Christians! Rightly wast thou renamed Panteleimon, which signifieth most merciful, for thou hast received from God the grace to pray for us, to heal infirmities, and to grant unto all who have recourse to thee that which is profitable for this temporal life and for salvation. Wherefore, having been vouchsafed thy mercy, unworthy though we are, we again fall down before thee in thy holy icon, and we give thee fervent thanks, as a true favorite of God and a faithful intercessor and healer; and we glorify the Lord our God, the Bestower of all good things, for the great benefactions which He hath wrought upon us through thee. Wherefore, mercifully accept this our meager prayer of thanksgiving, for we have naught else with which to repay thee fittingly. And for the remaining time of our life deprive us not, sinful and afflicted as we are, of thine aid and thy merciful mediation before the Lord our God—the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit—to Whom is due all glory, thanksgiving and worship, now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.
